Mit der Bahn Masserberg besitzt keinen Bahnanschluss. Auf der Straße Der Kraftfahrer fährt aus Richtung Saalfeld über Neuhaus am Rennweg und Katzhütte, aus Richtung Ilmenau über Stützerbach und Neustadt und aus Richtung Coburg über Eisfeld . Mit dem Fahrrad Durch Masserberg führt der Rennsteig-Radwanderweg.

Nicht weit von Masserberg entfernt liegt das Pumpspeicherwerk Goldisthal. Goldisthal ist eines der größten Pumpspeicherkraftwerke Europas. Das Kraftwerk kann nach Voranmeldung besichtigt werden. Weitere Ziele in der Umgebung sind (Entfernungen mit dem Kfz): Eisfeld (18km südlich) - Museum zur südthüringischen Porzellanindustrie vom 18. Jh. bis zur Gegenwart. Oberweißbach (23km nordöstlich) - staatlich anerkannter Erholungsort oberhalb des Schwarzatals; Thüringer Bergbahn. Neuhaus am Rennweg (24km östlich) - Kur- und Wintersportort und ebenfalls am Rennsteig gelegen. Nach ca. 4,5 km auf der Strecke trifft man auf die Werraquelle, wo es auch eine Einkehrmöglichkeit gibt.
